Dignity Memorial(R) Hosts Family Safety Conference
HOUSTON, June 2 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Service Corporation International (NYSE: SRV) (SCI) ... The sponsors of Dignity Memorial Escape School(R) and Dignity Memorial Smart & Safe Seniors(R) will host a Family Safety Conference June 4-5 in Houston, Texas. National safety expert Don Clark, former FBI special agent in charge of the Houston division, will be among the featured presenters. Mike Knox, author of Gangsta in the House, will also address the conference.
Clark will present Abduction in the 21st Century during his keynote speech Wednesday at 8:15 a.m. The FBI veteran will discuss how "smart, not scared" behavior saves lives, and the "truth about child abduction statistics."
Knox will present The Secrets Gangs Never Tell Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. A 15-year veteran of the Houston Police Department, Knox helped create the department's Westside Command Divisional Gang Unit. His work has been recognized by the National Gang Crime Research Center and the California Gang Investigators Association.
The Family Safety Conference is hosted by the Dignity Memorial network of funeral, cremation and cemetery service providers. Conference attendees represent many regions of North America and are members of the Dignity Memorial network who wish to present Dignity Memorial Escape School and Dignity Memorial Smart & Safe Seniors in their local communities. Attendees will complete workshops addressing technique demonstration, presentation skills, and the safety rules that underlie Dignity Memorial Escape School and Dignity Memorial Smart & Safe Seniors.
Dignity Memorial Escape School is targeted toward prevention of the 3,000 to 5,000 non-family abductions that occur each year. The national program focuses on the tricks and ploys used by child abductors and simple abduction escape tactics. It is offered at no cost to the public. Over 130,000 children throughout North America learned valuable safety skills last year during more than 1,000 presentations by members of the Dignity Memorial network.
Dignity Memorial Smart & Safe Seniors is a national program that offers safety strategies for seniors, particularly addressing home invasion, consumer fraud, cons and scams and travel safety. Members of the Dignity Memorial network gave more than 160 no-cost presentations of the Smart & Safe Seniors program in 2002.
