NYSE Closing Bell to Signify Major Acquisition for Service Corporation International
HOUSTON, Feb 05, 2007 /PRNewswire-FirstCall via COMTEX News Network/ -- North America's leading provider of funeral, cremation and cemetery services will celebrate a strong step forward on Wednesday, February 7, 2007, as Tom Ryan, President and CEO of Service Corporation International (NYSE: SCI), rings The Closing Bell(SM) at the New York Stock Exchange. Mr. Ryan will be joined in the ceremony by members of the SCI management team. With the recent acquisition of Alderwoods Group, Inc., its previous largest competitor, SCI broadened its footprint in the U.S. and Canada by more than fifty percent in a deal that is expected to produce immediately accretive results to cash flow, excluding one-time implementation costs.

The acquisition, which went into effect on November 28, 2006, combines the two leading providers of funeral and cemetery services in North America and will build upon both companies' operating excellence and community commitment.
